WG-Con WiP Pics: Team Tournament HQ

So for the team tournament, the Card Pimp in Question and I are busting out a TyraCron combo.  The HQ's are a Prime and a certain over-priced Necron Lord who drops lightning out of a clear blue sky.

The conversions I wanted to make present some unique challenges...

The Prime amalgamation.  He's magnatized so he can sit on a larger base, but...

Space Marine Flyers...

...don't look as bad as people are saying.  I didn't really like the Storm Raven, either, until I saw the actual kit in person.  I suspect it'll be the same with the Storm Talon.

...

Yeah.

I don't really have anything more to say on the subject; just thought I'd cash in on the ridiculous page-views any blog with 'flyers' in it will have this week.

To make up for tricking you, here's a pic I snapped at the recent Dallas ComicCon, when me and the and the OffTopical guys (iTunes keyword OffTopical or OffTopical Podcast - we're taking off!) shed our normal stealth geek for full-on nerd for a Saturday.  As usual, the cosplay crowd was out in force...

...with this pair being my personal favorite.  Cute, age-appropriate costumes well-executed.

I'm not going to torture you with all the Wonder Women, only one of whom met the above criteria.

*shudder*

Chaos Space Marine Test Models

Nothing complicated; I knocked out three test models for a CSM army the Card Pimp and I threw in on. The idea is to whip it up and sell it, so none of these three schemes are hard to paint.

Spray Painted Carnisaur Pics

I'm continuing to work on my spray techniques; here's the Carnisaur for the Card Pimp in Question, which I did mostly with spray paint.

Afternoon Quickie: Fantasy and some WiP pics

Or as we like to call Fantasy in our area, Amateur Night!  We are none of us all that great at this game, but with the FLGS owner asking for a push...

...why, push I will!  If it doesn't work once, I'll push it again - what are we talking about again?

I played Sam-I-Am at the store a few nights ago.

The table.  Units marching out.  This game was characterized by skirmishing and light cavalry fighting it out on the right flank, moving in and out for position, whilst my heavy-duty-booty smashing units marched up the center.  Sam had the answers... but as is usual for the man's poor luck, he managed to blow himself up.  A few times.  Three, I think.  Ouch.

Weekend Warhammer... Fantasy, Even

So, from what I understand Fantasy is broken and everybody hates it.

Well, since me and the guys from the FLGS were never really that good at it in the first place, we're having fun, regardless.

By the way, BIG CONGRATS to the birth of Little Barrera's little girl, Little Bit Barrera!  I'm pretty sure that's what Wife of Barrera the Younger plans on calling her.

(Ignore all that.  Congrats, Mike - much love!)

With the Master Manipulator (every store needs one) at the hospital, Everybody's Brother From Another Mother Big Whit being who-knows-where, Sam-I-Am having to work, and the general lack of interest in Fantasy from the younger set, it was a rather smallish tournament:  1250, 3 rounds.

The Mighty Mighty Carlos, spreading the Empire love.

Works in Progress... Wargames Con Coming Soon!

Wargames Con is in something like 38 days and counting.  There's a lot to do.  Currently I'm working on the Team Tournament army The Card Pimp and I are fielding, which is a Necron and Tyranid tag-team.

Our team name:  Not Another Grey Knights Army.

Plastic Glue... Who Knew?

Yeah, so this'll be short and sweet.

At Adepticon I happened to be in the right place at the right time to buy up a bunch of bargains - it was a fire sale, baby!

I got so much stuff that weekend it required a new bag to hold it all... but more on that later!  Anyway, those sprues are boxes I had to break down to fit; 2 Vendettas, 5 Chimeras, and 4 Death Co. boxed sets... for a price I'm loath to share, being so freakin' cheap!

So what's this all about?

I've long been a user of the 'super glue plus accelerator' combo, avoiding plastic glue like it was the plague.  The Master Manipulator (every store needs one) is a big believer in the right tool for the right job...

...and swore by plastic glue.  I did what I usually do with his advice - ignored him for years before accidentally seeing an example.  In this case, watching him put together a Guard army in record time.

It's a pretty unbelievable difference!  After a few moments of pressure, the glue is tacky enough to hold the models together until the seal is complete.  He was flying through guard models!

So, darn it all, yet again the dude has a point.  And yet again I'm years behind the curve.  I picked up some of the new Citadel glue - pictured above - and tried it out on the models from Adepticon I was putting together.

Damn.

All those years of wasted effort!  I have simply never put vehicles together so fast or so well.  The glue doesn't set immediately but will keep a hold, meaning you don't have to worry about it drying too fast and out of place.  You have some time to manipulate the parts where you need them.

If you're still using super glue, save it for metal and resin.  Buy this stuff for your plastics and don't look back!

What Happens at Adepticon...

...should stay at Adepticon!

This is one of my favorite clips from Adepticon.  I'm working on the editing before uploading it to the public at large, but you'll appreciate it nonetheless.

Rated PG-13

Following that tidbit - and Mike was a good sport to go along with that gag (heh!), here's a brief video from the Church of Kelly.  It's banned in 50 countries and 32 systems, from what I understand...

(A new favorite!) Anon: I haven’t even bothered playing a game of 6th yet, cause I have read the rules, and actually understand how they interact with units. I know my armies no longer function how they should, and so I need to change them.

Strictly Average: 'cause 6-inches is all you get.

Stalking Jawaballs since 2009.

Jawaballs: "My butt just tightened up."

Brent, preferred 2-to-1 over Not Brent in a recent, scientific poll.

Brent: emptied the Kool Aid and DRINKING YOUR MILKSHAKE with an extra-long straw.

Unicorns don't exist.

Home of the Stormbuster, the Dyson Pattern Storm Raven.

I'm a comment whore and this whore is getting no play.

Not Brent hurts Brent's feelings.

I think, therefore I blog.

"You should stop writing for everyone else and worry about your crappy blog." - Anon.

Not Brent has been spotted lurking around with a green marker.

He's not like a bad guy from a cartoon, all devious but never quite evil, Not Brent is bad beans, man, bad beans.

Dethtron: "Again I feel obliged to remind you that trying to sound smart only works if you are."

MVB: "I am not one to join the unwashed masses of self-titled 40k experts out there distributing advice from their blogs about exactly how your list should be built..."

Shiner Bock on tap: that's how I choose hotels.

Strictly Average: The Home of Hugs and Gropings.

Don't feed the trolls!

MoD: "Welcome to Brent's head."

Competitive is Consistent.

Dethtron: "...you could use that extra time to figure out a way to get your panties unbunched and perform a sandectomy on your vagina."

Dethtron: “When calling someone an idiot, it's generally best to avoid making grammatical mistakes.”

Warboss Stalin: "You know, if it actually WAS funny, maybe I wouldn't mind."

Mike Brandt: "It's not a successful bachelor party if you don't misplace someone".

"The Master Manipulator (every store needs one): "...now, enough stroking."

Kirby: "I don't know about gropings. Seriously, Brent, keep it in the pants, please."

Loquacious: "No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get Hugs & Gropings or Stalks Jawaballs into Brent's little tribute."

Captain Kellen: "I rate this article a Brent on the Faith Hill to Nancy Pelosi scale!"

Drathmere: "Come for the balls, stay for the Brent? Kind of disturbing, man."

Go no further, lest thee see something thine eyes would fain look past!

Isabelle: "So, thank you for supporting your local and not so local unicorns. A noble gesture like that can show some scared kids out there that they don't have to hide from everyone and it's ok to be who they really are."

There is nothing more interesting than We The People... in all our beautiful, ugly glory!

On Internet Advice: You see, I have an almost religious belief that's it's a huge, colossal waste of time.

...I think I'll call it the Gun Shy Pattern Stormbuster, because after the Internet destroyed my first humble effort, I find I'm a bit worried about the reaction to this one.

Lauby: "Is it left over from that time you thought that you could just complete step one 12 times to meet the mandates of that court order?"

Not Brent: "I guess we'll have to read on and find out. Signed, Not Brent. Especially today."

Cynthia Davis: "I think the scrolling text is from Glen Beck's new book."

Grimaldi: "Spamming certain units creates interesting possibilities but also fatal weaknesses."

Purgatus: "Math can inform decisions. It cannot make decisions."

Thoughts? Comments? Hugs and gropings?

You'd be that much quicker to figure out what I mean when I refer to a Unicorn if I covered it in a rainbow flag.

SinSynn: (To Brent) "Curse you and your insidious influence on the internets..."

Dave G (N++): "You know you're an internet celebrity when your following is more akin to tabloids."

I prefer the term Internet Personality (or IP) myself, seeing as how I coined it.

Lauby: "Your attempt to humanize him as failed. I feel nothing but scorn for his beard - it's like a warcrime or something."

BBF: "I've always thought you are a good player but I finally figured out that you are a great player. It's hard to see sometimes because your personality is engaging, sincere and quite charming - to me that is kind of a rare combination."

'Clearly cheating?' I didn't misspeak: you jumped to conclusions. If you'd like to apologize I'll be happy to send you an autographed picture of my ass.

Ass.

I thought I was doing alright before I realized I was losing.

Age and treachery beats youth and vigor every time.
